I'm a keen hog hunter and dog enthusiast from Australia. I just 're-found' this site after joining some time ago.

I run catahoulas with cutter/camp-a-while blood behind them, also bull arabs and a dane/bully/boxer.

I have a real interest in your breeds of dog, especially the curs and hounds as well as the am' bulldogs. Look forward to learning more of your different breeds and hunting techniques.

glad to see the interest. I am interesyed in the bullarab breed are there destinct families or lines of that breed or is it all happen chance ? I'd be interested in hearing of your dogs and points of breeding

Yeah the BullArab started off with one fella along with a few mates about 30 years ago. Now there are a few different recognised breeders that have developed their own 'line' to suit their style and what they want from a dog. Initially the Arab was 1/4 greyhound 1/4 pointer and 1/2 english bull terrier, they were used on hogs and wild cattle. When the population numbers of pigs exploded and the export business became quite lucrative the style of dog being bred was a taller/leggier faster dog that had the ability to catch more pigs. they would run down a pig, hold it then after the pig was dispatched the dog was sent on to find and run down more pigs, sometimes over and over.

The bloke who started the 'breed' dropped off the scene for a while (about 25 years) and has since returned to dogs, but, unforunately after having nothing to do with the Arabs or their development into one of the most prominent working dogs in Australia he seems to be trying to ride the coat tails of the Arab to develop more 'breeds' that he intends to sell for $1000+.

Look at his site and you'll see what I mean. Don't get me wrong, old mate is an old school hog hunter, but his new breeds: bull stop and bull enduro, leave you wandering.

The dogs 'boof' and 'tsunami' are in the breeding of the arab that I run, boof being his grand sire and tsunami being his 1/2 uncle.

Some bloodhound was thrown into the mix a while ago now, this line of Bull Arab is highly saught after and is known to go a long way after a pig scent and hold pigs for a long time. Most known breeders are using this line of arab in their breeding.

These days the Bull Arab is predominately white with liver, brown, blue, black or brindle patches. They range from 75-110 pounds, but a dog of about 85-90 pounds lean working weight I think is a good size. A dog must be kept lean and fit for our style of hunting, less fat around the heart will equal more endurance especially for holding rough pigs in hard to reach spots.
