I've lived and hound hunted in California for about 25 years. During that time, I have never had any negative experiences with a warden.

I recall a time while I was 18 when I was bear hunting in El Dorado County. I was pulled over by a warden and asked to show my license and tag. After being unable to find it (and I searched every nook and cranny of my truck, he told me to make sure I remembered it next time and let me go...turns out, I had left it on the kitchen counter.

I am by no means saying that there aren't bad apples, and I would be foolish to think that there isn't a size-able portion of wardens that are blatantly anti-hound, but it would be wrong to paint them all with the same brush, so to speak. In fact, in my experience, I think their overall opinion of hound hunters is slowly beginning to improve, and we should do our part to initiate or support this trend by educating the wardens of both the inherently natural and sporting aspects of hound hunting as well as the fact that we can be trusted to respect both the law and our natural resources.

I also mostly hunt in California and I have never had a problem with the wardens. They ask for hunting licence and guide log and that is all the run in I have ever had. I know A lot of people that have had problems with different warden's but I guess I m lucky because I have not.

Our game wardens are awesome, they call me up when the see a cat and are excited about hounds too. A couple of them want some of our pups, to start there pack. They even put in a good word for me to get a job with them.
