Your idea works very well, tried it before and it worked good. Not on baits but game trails here at the house.

Yes it works, but a word of caution. Check your local game laws to make sure it is not against the law. Some states consider it "illegal use of tracking equipment." May sound like BS but believe me it isn't, my state is one of them.

yea that is how i check my coyote traps but i just tie the string straight to the magnet. it works really well cause you have to keep as much sent out of the area, where your trap is, as possible. so all i do when i get home to check it is flip on the tracking box. hehe.
dont be afraid to fight for what you believe is right.

used this method in Maine on baits several years ago. We had alot of problems with coons pulling the magnets so we took a 1 gallon bucket with bait and suspended it beside the main bait with light fishing line. This way you can determine the size of the bear that you want to be able to pull the bucket down and activate the collar by adjusting the hieght.

We stashed a collar in my buddies back seat on his wedding night. After the reception we tracked him and his new bride to there motel. You should have seen the look on there faces when we crashed there "party"
