Marshall vs Johnson

Postby wvWalker » Mon Aug 03, 2015 5:52 pm

Garmin let me down this weekend. I had a collar lock up and one collar switches to two minute update randomly. Also have another collar that only works occasionally, it will show battery and communication but won't track I just get a question mark. What I want to know is what would you guys prefer for a back-up Marshall or Johnson?

I have always and will continue to always run a Johnson telemetry collar as a back up to the Garmin too many times the dogs have gotten too far away to be tracked by the GPS it is my fail safe

Johnson by far the best beep beep system. Reliable and tuff with great range.

I live in relatively small mountains out east, but I never run my dogs without my Marshall collars, and don't always bother with the Garmins. I almost never lose contact on the Marshalls, but lose contact on the Garmin all the time, and get crazy irrational readings occasionally. The Marshalls give off a strong signal even when they are picked up by misguided strangers in a car.

Had them both and prefer marshalls. They are pricey but I like the battery change option and the ability to change the frequency if need be. I sold all but a couple of the Johnson. I also like how you can add the Marshall on to an astro/alpha with a collar punch. Less stuff for me to remember.

When i started out i had Johnsons; my buddy had Marshalls. In the beginning we wondered if the dogs were together or not. It turned out the Marshalls just put out a stronger signal and tone. I have since switched over to Marshall and haven't looked back. I also like the abilty to have the freq changed and the option to add/remove switches.

Nothing against Johnsons, Good reliable collar. Old timers here still run em and stand by em. I just like my tones better :o)

Marshalls for me for several reasons, but mainly because there is less weight and bulk on the dog's neck.

I think he is referring to the ability to remove it from the its original collar and install it onto the garmin collar as a backup. So not only do you have the gps but the telemetry as a back up on the same collar. The marshalls are installed on their straps with 4 screws.
