Has anyone started running the wolves with hounds yet?

Not that I’m aware of but believe that’s not legal but I’d have to look into it. I have a buddy who runs coyotes with sight hounds that are pretty large and he thinks he could get it done.

I know they had a lot of success with it in Wisconsin or Minn before they banned wolf hunting in general. They just used their coyote bred running walkers in good size packs and they learned that once the wolves figured out they were the ones being hunted they would break up and run.

This blew me away originally because I just figured the wolves would just turn and fight and kill all the dogs but that was not the case at all. They were posting pics of huge wolves caught, one was a black wolf I remember and they say he weighed like 140lb.

I’ve read about that some, stuff I saw said they were only turn out 1 or 2 dogs on a single track. Sounds very exciting and I would love to give it a go.

It seems to put a healthy respect in the wolves towards hounds. But who knows.

Caught a small bear this afternoon, left the house at 520am and got home at 8pm. Caught the bear around 130 and just kept hunting, was a short race maybe half a mile. Found a mostly eaten bobcat on the way to the tree and a magpie that had been killed, plucked then placed on top of the feathers and eaten very neatly on my way back to the truck. Had a buddy of my son with me that had never seen a bear and would like to harvest one along. I asked him when we got to the tree if he was going to take the bear and he says your son would never let me live down killing that little thing if it’s alright I’ll wait and see if we can’t catch something more respectable! I was very impressed that a 16 year old who has been actively trying to kill a bear on his own didn’t just pull out the gun and go to it. We leave the tree on a very steep face and I told him I was going to hurry down with the dogs in case the bear jumps, about half way down I hear him say I can’t understand how you can go down this mountain so much faster than me… he’s a star athlete and I’m fat and old kinda made my day!

Sounds like a pretty neat hunt.
