We got a big one! My pups first coon.

Postby gunsrock38 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 12:59 pm

This was a 31.7 pound coon that we got last night. We let the dogs loose and they ran the creek up to a combine and went inside the combine and started baying it up real hard. We looked around inside of it and sure enough there was a big ol' boar coon. We poked it with a fence post so it would come out, and when it charged out of there we let the dogs loose and the race was on. My 6 month old Rooster(Jeff Allen Dog out of Kim and Pepper) charged out of there with 2 other dogs and they caught it on the ground. Rooster didn't do much at first, but all of a sudden he started baying it up and running in there and grabbing it and helped the other dogs stretch it. We got the dogs away from it long enough to get a bullet in it, but the dang coon just wouldn't die. The hounds jumped in again and when they got away from it a second time the next bullet ended it. It was a great night, and needless to say I was really excited that my pup turned up the heat!!!

That Rooster dog sure did turn it on didnt he! He keeps runnin with Copper, Regie,N Daisy N Damn the coons better watch out.

I doctored regie up wwwhen that con had ahold of his bottom jaw, damn it sure chewed the hell out of it. But for 11 months old he did a damn good job wearing the coon down.

Pup will be fine he is a little soar but rarin to go get another coon. 3 Days of Penecilin and he will be good as new.

About a month and the bobcats better look out.

Got my Garmin and a Dc40 collar from Cabelas today, charged, topo map loaded and ready to hunt.

Talk to ya Later. Gonna run a few times this week.

That's a pretty big coon for around here. I'd say the coons around here average between 15-20 pounds, but it depends where you're hunting at.
