Salt River, Verde river, or just about anywhere there is a good supply of water. I've even seen them in town a few times. One of my dogs treed one once in an orange tree. I thought it was a feral cat, but sure enough it was a coon.

To be honest, they are where ever they are. Grab your dog, and go look for some tracks. They're there. Also check any feeder creeks or washes. With the rain we've had so should be able to find some tracks pretty quickly.

They seem to live in isolated populations and can be very common in one area then only a few miles away you never see any even though it looks like good habitat. In my area there is a good population along the river. I see them very rarely near my house and only two miles away they cause trouble with trash and bird feeders in the foothills.

I think they may be lion bait and they get eaten if they stray too far into the mtns and away from people... just a theory because the habitat looks good in the mtns.
