watter battle

Postby montananative » Mon Apr 13, 2009 4:10 pm

this is gunna be a long one...

dropped with tess and my buddys walker.

tess struk in a log jam that was all dried up, only time there is water in it is in high water. both dog took the track and were workin it. we heard what we thought was treein, but my heart sank cause as i knew we were runnin out of woods until we hit the yellowstone river, and thats just what happened.

we got to the river to see three sets of eyes, two dogs and the coon. the dog were barkin and fightin to beat hell. the worst part about it was that you could hear and see them go under water, there bawls turned into gargles as they went under, thats one of the most helpless feeling in the world when they are 200 yards accross a fast movin river fightin a coon.

they drifted about 1/2 mile and finally got the coon bayed up in some shallow water, they faught there for about 15 minutes. about that time we seen a head light from accross the river. a homeless feller was camped out on the other side and come over when he heard the comotion. then the coon decided to take it to deep water again and the fight drifted on down the river. some how some way that homeless guy got them dogs pulled off the coon and out the water.

i headed back to the truck while my buddy stayed at the river to keep and eye on the dogs, just to make sure they didnt keep driftin down river. i finally got back to the truck and accoss the river to get the dogs. when i met up with the homeless guy he said "your dogs attacked a coon, dumb a$$ city dogs." i just laughed and said "yep." both dogs were recoverd and are doin fine. this was one of those situations that all ya can do is take it all in and crap in your pants, i damn near jump in, but the river was two fast and i would hvae been a mile down stream or drowed by the time i got accross. i hope to never experience something like this again.

he had to get overthere somehow with out getting wet, the points not that he already had food, it that he just saved your dogs from possibly being drown. go get a extra value meal from Micky Ds or a meal to go from a local cafe and take it back out to the guy no matter how far he is from town.

doogie. guess you missed me saying he was on an ISLAND. that means NO way accross. i know the area well, hunt there alot, and there is no way accross but to get wet, so keep your assumptions to yourself. i dont know how he got accross, but he did, guessin he got wet in the process, maybe he wants to be left alone? not all homeless ppl are freeloaders beggin in the city. i thanked him for his help, and he said no problem...we left it at that, my dog was my main concern as she was tore up pretty well from the fight

I took my dogs out the other night (i have two red bones and a walker) and we went to a pine draw that had a little spring fed dam on it, well it wasn't a couple of minutes after we turned loose that they were cutting loose on track and then treeing. But they would tree then silent then tree a little ways away. So we went down to see what was going on well they had treed two coons the first one was on land, but the second one was in the middle of the small pond on a dead pine tree. He wasn't wet so I knew the dogs were just drifting that one from shore, the wind was blowing in the direction of the first tree. Well what made it pretty cool was two of the dogs swam out to the tree in the pond and swam around it baying the whole time. They would put themselves on the tree and then swim. Untill they got tired and we just hooked them up. I thought to myself as we were walking back to the truck that would have been a cool picture to have. Well when we got back to the truck I rememerd that I did have a camera on me and got to busy watching and listening I forgot to use it I do that alot.
