I was wondering at what time of night or day guys have seen there most success while hunting coons? Also what is the behavior of coons? Do they den underground then come out at night and climb trees for food or what? I have been having trouble finding any coons, I think alot of them got sick and died around home. It used to be fairly easy. I think that my most successful time has been around 2 or 3 am.
Another question, What about wheather? The most coons I seen in one night was on a night when it was raining like crazy!! I was trying to go home but every time I would get to my dogs they would start another coon. Was this just a coinsidence or has anyone else experianced something like this?

Re: Questions about coons
well, first off, coons need food. find the food source and you find the coons.
for the most part coons will den in hollow trees...some will den in holes as well. it all depends. as far as them movin, it all really depends. if the temps are droppin big time from when the sun goes down to moring, then the coon will move early at night while its still a little warm. but in the summer around here, seems they move all night. sometimes they have to move longer and farther if food is limited.
most the time when im scouting huntin spots, i find water and look for tracks, or else just find berries, nuts, or anything a coon may eat adn look for scat or tracks. once u hunt an area alot, you will grasp when and where the coons are moving. good luck
most the time i head to the woods 1 to 2 hours after dark. rarely am out past 3 am unless the dogs skipp to the next county, or the hunting is just amazing. usually the mosqitos scare me away first though.
