I got a cheap heritage single action with the changeable 22lr/22wma cylinders a couple years ago. Very nice little gun for the money. Its got a 6in barrel and is fairley accurate. Here in VA theyre priced at around 189 which doesnt make me feel so guilty about beating it up hunting.Its also nice that it has a manual safety as well as the single action. In the box it also comes with a cheap nylon holster.

Browning Buckmark slabside with a trigger job, shoots like a rifle. I shoot with the stock iron sights with Winchester Power Point ammo when I can find it.
When hunting bigger critters, I carry a Kel Tec PMR 30 (.22 Mag). I love the weight and stock trigger on this gun. It actually carries easier than the Browning but is a little loud for young hounds that I start my young hounds on. I shoot the Hornady 45 grain FTX Critical Defense Ammo, packs a huge punch for a rimfire.

I carry an old Colt Woodsmen 22 long rifle mostly for snakes but it can make a coon jump if the need arises.

I have an old beater .22 rifle that has shot many many coon. Last year I purchased a Ruger SR22 pistol. That's all I took with me. The leaves are off here in the fall so a coon should be easy to spot unless you're in a big ole hemlock. I don't think anyone can deny that a coon 30 feet up is probably going to take a couple rounds with a pistol versus that one shot one kill with a rifle. Up until last year .22 ammo was plentiful. I hunt one dog on coon and still like the convenience of the small pistol on my side. If he's too high to hit with a couple shots I have no problem climbing. Just my .02 worth.
