rabies

when a coon bit my walker pups ear it made two inch long slits all the way through her ear and that was last nite..shes still bleedn outa her ear..should i get her checked for rabies?...the coon didn growl or bite at me when i put my hand near the cage and it wasnt foaming so i dont know what to do :?

ears will bleed like a head wound try some emt gel. she should be fine with that.

Sounds like a typical coon bite. Ears are one of the worst spots to get the bleeding to stop and heal up.

I wouldn't go asking anyone about testing your dog for Rabies after it's been in a fight with a coon, expecially if it doesn't have its vaccines. There's still only one way to test for Rabies, and thats to cut your dogs head off.

rabies is rare. but if your gonna be hunting coon you should get that dog his shots and its a good idea to keep some amoxacilin (fish mox) around. animal bites and scratches are dirty and easily get infected. vets are expensive, sometimes you cant avoid them.
