Does anyone know where I can find a coon in MT

Postby hoyter » Sat Feb 27, 2010 5:56 pm

I'm looking for a caged or dead coon to train my dog with and am having a hard time trapping one. Does anyone know where I can find one around the gallatin valley? Thanks.

With these warm days the males will be out moving around. I sometimes see dead coon on the road from Belgrade to 4 corners. There is coon around Three Forks, and on the any of the large rivers and streams around Bozeman. If its not all iced up and before the water gets to high from spring run off just look for their tracks in the mud along the water. It might be a little hard to find someone that will let you on and or a public place where the people will leave your trap alone. I like to use marshmellows. If you use fish you will attract skunks and their is no shortage of them. If your luck doesn't change let me know and maybe I can pick one up for you I live about 30 miles away.

Thanks a lot guys, let me know if any of you would like to go coon hunting in this neck of the woods. I have got some pieces of private land to hunt on the gallatin that have not been hunted for quite a few years. Thanks again.

Coon are out and about. We treed four and caught one on the ground Saturday. Like someone else said you should find plenty of them along the river. Put a couple feeders out and you should have an easier time getting young dogs on hot tracks to get them started. Good luck.
Montana Red Kennels - redbones that catch game and hold it until you get there.
