Close to that. Two different trees. 3 in one and 2 in the other. We ended up taking one out of the pack. I will tell you something that KC sure has a good little bitch for them coons. And to top it all off he got her for FREE!! How many of you all keep a journal of your coon hunts? Date, Time, weather conditions, Moon, etc....

So far I really like her. Hard headed a little but hope to over come that this bear season. Got her from Ryan Davidson. He bred his little Oney bitch to Dustin Myers Idaho Lightfoot Gambler dog. Sounds like you have some good coon hunting up your way?

WENT OUT AGAIN YESTERDAY. TRIED HUNTING SOME NEW COUNTRY, IT LOOKED VERY GOOD.
WE TURNED THE DOGS LOOSE AND STARTED DOWN THE DRAW. ALL WAS WELL UNTILL THE PUPS FOUND A PORCIPINE SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING. THEY HAD QUILLS EVERYWHERE. HOPE THEY LEARNED THERE LESSON.
I WAS TOLD YOU CAN'T BREAK BEAR DOGS OFF PORCIPINES CAUSE THEY SMELL VERY SIMILAR TO BEAR. IF SO I JUST HOPE THE DON'T TRY TO EAT ANOTHER ONE WHEN THEY FIND IT. HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT BEARS AND PORCIPNES SMELLING CLOSE TO THE SAME?

bummer, happened to me last summer on a pup. good news is it hasnt happened again. "knock on wood" I went out last night. ran one in a hole. treed one, some coyotes came in to see the comotion and my pups took off after the coyots, ran them off a couple hounded yards then came back to the tree, started a third but bumped into a bunch of free grazin cattle so we called it loaded up and left.

KC,I have also heard people say that bear and porcupine smell the same to a hound and I know my beardogs will strike pretty hard on a porcupine but I don't think that they think it is a bear. There is just something about the smell of a porcupine that trips there switch.I know my dogs can recognize individual bears by their scent so I think a hounds nose is sensitive enough to know that a porcupine isn't a bear.I'll bet you could break a dog off porcupines and he would still run bears.
