anybody know any tips for catching trap wise coons? i know some people in town havin problems and I've already caught 3 of em but theyre still comming back but not gettin in my trap they are moving the trap around but i think they've seen the other ones get trapped and know better.

Wedge the trap between something so they cant move it.
Cover the cage completely with grass or in a wood pile so they cant see the cage or access the bait from any side. They seem to like crawling in dark holes with less hesitation.
I've had a couple coons in the past I was trying to catch that would upset the cage and when I did this, I caught them.

A full smorgasboard of bait doesnt hurt either, fish heads are ideal I'm told but my favorite was tuna water (from a can) and chicken bones/scraps off a roasted chicken.

I spend every year trapping urban coons and almost every one of them has been caught before. Here's how to catch them. Lay a trash can over on its side, place trap inside it. Cover the trap with all the trash and also put some trash inside the trap. Use paper inside the trap so when the door comes down, nothing interferes with it. Best camoflage you can use for urban coons. You'll catch every one. The type of bait used in this case isn't as important but any of the canned cat foods work fine. Have fun.

HAHA im glad im not the only one having issues with the smart coons lol. Ive had to go as far as rewraping smaller wire over the old wire and actually using the hooked tent stakes to hold it down my buddy watched 5 coon just roll my cage over working as a frickin team lol but ive figured them out so far. also Ive found the best bait is using dry cat or dog food now thats what I have found others have prolly used different stuff and swear by it. well thats my story lol

I have actually seen coons let eachother out of live traps.If you can't secure the trap otherwise ,put a rebar stake through the back , and cubby it up as well as you can. Tune your traps for quick lock up if you can . It takes only a fat tail for freedom . Even for a dumb coon . Try twizzlers or red vines and a slice of a car air freshener . That will keep out the trash , ie skunks and cats .

What I have done in the past when this has happened is to wire the door open so they cannot trip it , load it up with bait and let them have at it for a night or two they will get used to the trap, then the next time you set it they will walk right in like feed station and you shouldn't have a problem catching every one of them.
