ENGLISH AND WALKERS ARE THE QUICKEST HOUNDS TO START NORMALLY BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS. I PERSONALLY LIKE ENGLISH SINCE THERE NOT USUALLY AS HARD HEADED AS WALKERS.
BOY THIS COULD BE A LOADED QUESTION LOL

I'd have to say as a whole, most Walkers start early. Mine are running, treeing, and fighting game at 5-7 months old.

YES A QUICK STRIKE DOG IS VERY IMPORTANT AND ALSO A DOG BEING INDEPENDENT..NO PACK DOGS. A PRESSURE PROOF TREE DOG IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT NO MATTER WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND THE TREE.

For competition Walkers seem to do best. All my dogs entered there first UKC hunts at 10 months old, and have done well. I'm the one that needs work on my handling/calling skills.

Of the dogs I've messed with over the years of all breeds except leopards, I would say the Hammer line of blueticks , on average, were the earliest starting dogs(tracking and treeing) I've been around. Whether you like the finished product might be a different story. Early starting to me isn't at 7 months, more like 4 months, even though early starting doesn't mean much to me as long as they start running tracks and show good locate by the time they're 1yo.
All breeds have their earlier starters. The running dog crosses are the latest starters that I've seen, but I've seen somewhat early starters with them, too.

the best bet is to get pups out of two parents that started early out of lines of dogs that start early regardless of breed . i always look backward as a starting point that way it may give you some insight on the future. if i bred two lousy treedogs together thats kind of what i would exspect of the pups . jmo

I think there are strains in every breed that are early starters you just gotta find it. I have one of Trackman that I bought at 8 and a half months old running and treeing. So I have tried to stay with that line and have a couple off cold sweat that are a year and a half that have benign running coon since5-6 months along with bear and bobcat. But seeing I like these walkers I would say walkers are the earliest starters.
