I usually wait for an hour after dark before we turn loose and get done anywhere from midnight to two. But i've heard of guys waiting till three or four in the morning the then going into early morning hours. Is there any big differences and bennefits to either or is it just prefrence? Thanks

We hunt right at sun down and sometimes dont stop till 8-9 in the am. But for us sundown for about 1 hr and about 1 hr before sunrise till sun up is the best times. For us alot depends on temps it can still be very warm here when coon is open so when its to hot we wait till 3 or 4 am to start.

the reason we wait till later on in the day is that way we can train the dogs to take the heat for the summer time lion trails and bears, here its a dry heat hunting by a river the dogs get hot they go and dunk in the river cool down and then continue hunting itsa blast to see the coon in the tree in the day time im going to train my pup to hunt during the day first then when she masters that she will be move to night hunts and so on and shiped off to train on bears with her two brothers

I usually hunt from 9:00pm to 4:00 am. I stopped hunting mornings after the ban on bobcat hunting in Washington. I used to hunt till 9:00 am before the ban.

I start between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM to try to beat this 100+ degree heat. It has been 75-77 degrees the last few mornings. I don't hit that many hot tracks as coons are usually down but makes the dogs work. Since it has not rained in months, trailing conditions are extremely tough.
Adios,
Gary
