coonhound training

hey i've got a 2 year old treeing walker and i've just had a really late start on him but he's impressed me a couple times this season. i've had alot of trouble gettin him to tree on scent. he likes to tree by sight. but since i've put our barn cat in my live trap and draggin it through the woods and rubbin on tree he really started treeing hard just on scent. so hopefully with a couple successes with a friend of mines dogs he'll start treeing really good on coon. one thing i can't get out of him is opening up on a trail so if anyone has a tip on getting him to open up that would be great. we rig our dogs, and i have been really lucky and he has started striking on his own, but i'd like him to strike just a little harder and make up his mind to strike a little faster so i'd like some tips fer that to. this is my first coonhound. and i'd like to know any imprinting techniques that will make my next hounds get how to tree faster on just scent.
thanks
