Looking for some advice

Post by bobbercrazy23 »

I hav a problem with my dog she'll tree by sight on a cage coon but wont tree by smell. last nite i let a coon go for her and she chased it into a hollowed out tree and she couldn't see it so she sniffed it a little bit and left to go chase the mule deer that were watching us. does anyone have a solution to keep her at a tree or a hole
If it has fur I chase it.

Well if you want her to hunt more by smell then I would suggest to get some coon pee and put it on a rag or towel and let her smell it for a while then drag it on the ground and try to get her to follow it. Try doing this for a while and it should get her to stay because she knows what the smell is and she is supposed to stay there.

coon pee on rag works but dont do it to much. I take a caged coon and put a TOWEL UNDER the cage and let the coon get its stink on the towel for a day or two. THen I take the coon up in the hills and drag the towel behind the truck for a couple miles. Then I take it off the road and drag it up a tree. I also put the caged coon in the tree. I let the dogs find the coon and make sure they are doing it correct. when they do all the things that a coon dog should do, I tie the dogs of and lower the coon, release the coon after about 2 to 5 mins of loving and petting the dogs. They then tree the coon again and I shoot it. That is how I have trained my dogs. Its alot of fun.
