Hello everyone been creeping on this site for a while, finally took the time to join, so this is my first post. I am as green to hounds as it gets. I bought two walker pups and decided to start and maybe even keep em just on coon. they show alot of interest in the coon hide I use and are always using their noses to find everything. Their 3 and a half months now. The only thing they dont do is bark at game. they chase eachother bite, growl, and ocasionally bark at eachother, but when I show them the coon all they do is sniff at it bite at it jump up at it it, everything you want, but bark. Their the only dogs I have so no other dogs to show them the way. what age do pups usually start barking at game? I'm sure it depends on the dog and I know their just pups, But man I wish theyd bark more often. Or at least right now i whish they would, haha

It all depends on the pups and thier personality some dogs start pretty young but some of my best dogs started a little slower.Keep spending lots of time with them and dont try to force them into doing things before they are ready

The one thing Ive learned so far is let a pup be a pup, and don't force anything on them. Their grat acting hounds so far and when they do bark the ones got a nice low bawl to him, I just don't want to screw them up. if they should be barkin and aren't, Id like to jump on that right away.

I have Two wlaker pups that are 3 months and a week. This weekend i showed them a live coon in a trap. One was all up close to the coon and going off like crazy. The oter just stood back and barked from a distance. But I think the live coon made a difference. Also my heeler dog may have helped them get started with it a little. After it was turned loose and the older dogs stretched it, The pups did pull on it and tug it around for quite some time. Good luck and have fun.

At that age I will pick the pup that does not bark at the coon over the one that does every time. Dewey

keep messing with them and one day something will click with em and they'll realize what the voice is for.

I got a bluetick dog it took him a few caged coon before he would bark and not just act totally scared of them. Now he's coon crazy and wants to hunt all the time. Sometimes it just takes a couple tries. Try to get with someone who has a dog that'll bark to help them if ya can. Good Luck and have fun.

Keep with the caged coon and always have an older hound around to show them what to do with a caged coon. Worked really well for us. Best of luck!

My dog just took time. At 7 months she wasnt even interested in a caged coon. At 12 months she was trying to tear the cage apart.

I would let them grow up a little more before you mess with them on cage coon . Barking on a cage critter really don't mean anything , I have a pitbull that will tear up a cage but he wouldn't cut it as a coondog . Get the book walk with wick you won't regret it .
