I have being with hounds for the last 14 years, but the last three I wasnt able to have a tree hound. They will trail the coons but not able to locate and tree their coon.

I bought Sally a Bluetick from Gary Roberson last July, I take her hunting last weekend and was able to tree two coons. Even that she is only 1 year and five months, Gary was able to train her good and has a lot of good blood in her genetics. Lots of JBS Chief and Upson Boy II in her. I Hope she last´s many years with me.

Something funny happen last Saturday while hunting. Sally and two Ormiston Blueticks (Julie & Rusty) were treeing. In the tree they were three young coons (half grown) all together like three balls. That was about 5 to 8 meters from the ground. I was just going to shoot one coon. I wasn´t able to see the bodys of each one clearly. I just pick the one I thought it was one of them and was at the highest point. They were touching each one togther. I went about two meters to a side so when the coon falls it didnt drop in my head. I had a .22 with open sights. I told my friend to put the light behind me so I am able to see the sights. When I pull the trigger. I saw movement and a growl of the coon I hit. He felt straight line downward with gravity. At the same moment one of the other two coons I didn´t shoot. Jumps directly toward us. I was able to see him, he was coming like a flying squirrel directly toward us. With his arms and legs expanded, and it was like flying. I was able to move to my side, my friend move to the other side and he told me later the coon land in his bottom leg. He was very close to me because he was shining the sights and the coons. It was kind of scary and funny at the same time. We were jumping and kicking to scare the coon, he was able to run and save his life. The dogs grab the one that I hit with the .22 rifle.

Good to hear from you and glad that Sally is doing you a good job. She is a very nice hound with a long life in front of her. I hope that she makes training the Ormiston pups much easier.

Good story, Hector. Thats what I like about coon hunting. You never know whats going to happen and you have to have a sense of humor about it to enjoy it. I can just see you guys jumping around trying to scare a coon more than it has surprised/scared you!

How has the hunting been going? I miss Sally, she is a nice hound, very intelligent and easy going. I have been having trouble with Jill (Sally's littermate) as she got sick and almost died. I was very worried because she is rapily becoming my best hound. She had an infection in her small intestines, I think from eating a bone from a dead animal while hunting. She is beginning to recover but almost died two different times. She lost from 47 pounds down to 33 pounds but is beginning to recover. Daisy has been in heat and I have been in Mexico for a week, hunting lions. I just returned last night.

Gary, I hope that Jill recovers to 100%. Sally I have being hunting her, with the Julie and Rusty (Ormiston breeding). Sally is very fast hound with good nose. Only problem if she doesn´t find a fresh track she will start working an old track and after much wallowing on the track she will get treed. That is with no coon in the tree. Maybe is because not hunting her hard enough. I havent being using the ecollar when she does that. I will start giving her some correction if she continues to do that.

She has a lot of drive and speed, she hasn´t turn two years yet, so I think she will become better with more training and hunting. She handles real good and has good manner at the house and in the truck.

The Ormiston hounds don´t back her up when she trees those time, but they are not yet treeing that hard when they have the coon. But they have begin treeing a little at this time.

I hope the three blueticks I have they will become with more exposure to game and more hunting in good balance hounds.

She needs to be hunted as she is still young. I hope you can find areas where coons are more plentiful as she so wants to catch. I was not having a problem with her treeing without coons but I am sure I was hunting her where there was a higher coon populaiton. She needs to be hunted at least 3-4 times a week or young dogs with her energy will do strange things from time to time.
I think that Jill is almost well and I want to start hunting her again as she was in heat before becoming ill. She has not been hunting for nearly a month. Hunting conditions are very bad at this time as we have had no rain or snow, no ground cover and the wind has been blowing. I am just starting to haul Jack who is a full brother to Sally. He is a nice looking dog with a big mouth and he has a lot of energy. I think he will start going very quickly but time will tell.
