Question that needs a answer

Postby Mrcrazyweasel » Thu May 30, 2013 3:44 am

So i have a young black and tan pup that is coming along well. We started hunting him with older dogs and he was treeing good with them. Then one day he got bit at the tree. So he wasnt treeing with other dogs as much after that. He would either split tree or wouldnt tree at all. Though i then later got him out with some diferent older dogs and he struck and treed just fine with them. So i took him out the other day and he is about a yr and 1 month and he treed by himself for the first time!Well then again tonight i took him back out again with that older dog that had bit him about 4 months ago. He struck first and i called him treed and then once the other old dog started to tree he just left. My question is do you think he is just scared of that dog or what?

Yes, I would not hunt him with the older dog. Sounds like he is pretty smart and does not want any more of the older mean hound...I would not either.

Hunt that dog alone at that age and put some lead in that other dog. Fighting at tree is unexceptable and not tolerated here with me. Let the pup know its ok and tie that older fog back at all trees if you don't do wat I said in beginning.

Okay thanks for both answers I believe i am going to start hunting him alone for awhile. Maybe possibly hunt with some other older dogs that dont fight.

If fighting starts end it quick just remember that. I really would hunt that dog alone let him build up confidence and do it on his own but jmo

A dog that face barks or fights at a tree is the worst thing a houndsman can own. He will rarely get himself killed, and as chance would have it, it will probably be your best dog that dies due to his fighting. I don't tolerate it whatsoever, it's a one and done kind of deal for me.

Ya it is one of my buddies dog. From what ive seen coming out of this pup though, i think he would rather hunt alone. He goes quicker and sometimes ranges farther by himself. It shouldnt be long now till he is treeing on a consistent basis by himself so im just going to keep him from that dog and hunt him alone for now on.
