i really want to live in the country but i currently dont, and i need a hound, would it be fine to have in town if i took him hunting every weekend during season, hed get plenty of excercise and play, i have another dog also(very active yellow lab) but i just worry about when im at school and football practice, i dont know if hed be happy sitting in a kennel for 7 hours until i get back from school???? does anyone know where im coming from, my dog right now is totally my responsibility and i feel bad for him all day when im in class because he lays around and pretty much is in a kennel for 3/4 of his life, i wish i could, but i cant just skip school every day

I have a hound in town and she seems to get along just fine. I am looking at a male for this upcoming fall (pup). I leave my dog in her crate while I am at school and she is fine. The crate is really not that different from a dog box except it is in the house. When she was a pup we used to take her to dog parks all the time so she could play and whatnot. Now that she is coming up to 2 years old the only downsides to living in town are that any neighbours who let their cats roam free around the neighbourhood will have to stop, or they find their cat at the top of a tree/ telephone pole and once she has treed their cat she will always be baying loud enough to let everyone know. I never let a dog bark excessively for no reason when I lived with my parents in the country, so it wasn't a big deal moving them to town. I get out hunting every weekend when possible as well as taking her out at minimum once per week in the evenings. During fur season she will be out almost every night.
In some ways its good as your dogs will be well socialized with other dogs, and if you make sure they get out for 1.5-2 hours a day for a run outside of hunting it should be fine. The way I see it, if you want a hunting hound bad enough, you will make it work.

i have two. chuck a tennis ball out in a park, or school field at night and they have to find it with their nose. gives em exercise, and their hunting fix. just keep an eye out for stray cats. so it won't get stretched
