coon hunting in colorado?

anybody know what the law states about huntin coon at night as far as needing a special permit for artificial light and such

Private your good to go public u need a permit. I'm not sure if the permit is needed during training season on public though ?

the reason I ask is I called the game warden and he said he would write me a permit but he didn't even know if it was legal he said he would check and get back to me but never did and the way the brochure reads it sounds legal just wonderin if anybody does it and if they wrote u a permit

I know hunting on public during kill season u do. Training I'm personally leaning on no but like u said game and fish never gave me a straight answer

You can run them in the summer you just cant shoot them

yeah but u still have to have a permit to use artificial light on public land and running during the day here is not productive

the permit for a spotlighting is free, and either way I don't think you need it unless your shooting something. shouldn't need a permit to use a flashlight.

There is a section on the website that talks about what you can do with the dogs in the summer but with the new website I cant find it. Hopefully your DOW guy can set us all straight on what legal and whats not

im pretty sure its legal but he don't know he tried to tell me a couple days ago there was no april season for lion and I proved that wrong I just think he doesn't like houndsmen and is tryin to make things difficult im goin to try the other game wardens in the area I know them all pretty well just don't have their telephone numbers

OK I found it but it doesn't say anything about light permit but I stand by you don't need it if your not shooting.
ARTICLE III - TRAINING OF HUNTING DOGS FOR HUNTING
#805 - TRAINING ON WILDLIFE
A. Individuals may train hunting dogs on wild game birds from the August 1st through April 15.
B. Only firearms shooting blank cartridges or shells shall be used while training hunting dogs on wild game when a hunting season is not in progress for such wildlife.
C. The training of dogs on coyotes is permitted except from April 16 through July 15 of each calendar year.
D. The training of dogs on raccoons is permitted except from May 1 through June 30 of each calendar year.

I also think you should talk to your warden friends about this guy and let them know what he has been telling you.
