A December morning hunt.

Postby bowtech36 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 8:22 pm

Yesterday morning my fiance and a good buddy decided to hunt one of our normal spots. The rain has had everything flooded and the roads undrivable. With a clearing in the weather we decided we'd park and walk/free cast the creek. It's a walnut orchard on the right, and a creek with oaks, cottonwoods and briar patches on the left. We kicked the dogs out at about sunrise and it didn't take long for them to hit a track but it dwindled into nothing at a bamboo patch. The next track ended up in a bay/ digfest in a brushpile that earlier in the season we caught two nice boars in. We called the dogs off and sent them again. They hit a track that seem to go on forever across the creek. This one was up and running not just were a coon had walked the night before. We continued walking and listening and finally when we got close they were across the creek from us checking but not barking. They waded into the creek and swam across thinking they lost the track, but when they got to our side they quickly hit and moved out quickly. They drove it hard for a aways into a real nasty briar thicket. My buddy walked down to the clearing where the coon would have to come out of with his blue dog with him. Right when he got to the clearing I saw the coon climb and my female locate. It was fun seeing it climb as usually you don't get the opportunity. After stomping and wading the the briars I was able to get some good photos and video. The coon came out but we pulled the dogs off to allow him to be caught another day.
