carbide light

Does anybody still use one. They say they work better for finding coons and for spearfishing because it doesnt glare off the water. I would like to hear peoples opinions on them that have used them

man, this post takes me back a ways.lol they work well for spotting eyes for sure. carbide lamps were all I had when I was a kid . one time I ran out of water for my lamp so I pissed in it..lmao it worked but didn't smell too pleasant. another time , was frog hunting and my helmet fell off. I caught it with a open hand which caused a big burn blister on my hand. the night was young so I kept giging and naturally the blister broke and before it was over I had a bad infection. my hand puffed up bigtime and I will never forget the pain when the doctor opened it up to drain. if that ever happens o you my advice is to resist you're reflex to grab it and let it hit the ground lol

They work great. I still have one in good working condition but have't found carbide for one. It must be 45+ years old. Let me know if you where you can find it. Try a red or green light. Dewey

thanks for the replys. lehmans has 5 2lb cans for 80 bucks. then cheapcarbide.com has smaller amounts

used one for years and wish I still had one . I've had all kinds of critters just walk right up to me at night when wearing it . lol I had the itch to find me another one here a while back and ran across this web site that still has the just-rite and a bunch of vintage stuff for sale .

I use carbide lamps to coon hunt and fish with still yet. I prefer them way over battery lights, coon look at them better, they don't run dead, don't have to remember to charge them, and are easy to start a fire with if you want to build a fire while in the woods. I have also found that when hunting with others they turn there battery lights off and use the light my lamp puts off while we are walking. I have a lot of old lights, as well as a new one that I bought from lehmans that works good.
