I have a 9 month old Walker that I want to hunt. I have ran him with 2 other dogs, and he did OK. I'm looking for someone I can run him with/train with and maybe learn something from. Anything advice helps. Thanks y'all.

Meagain, go buy 150 lbs shelled corn. Find 5 drains( we call them ditches down hear) about a mile distance from each other and dump out about half of a 5 gal bucket in each spot. Take your dog back to each spot in about 7 days. Let him out and don't say anything, just walk to the feed and watch. If his body language shows no scent detection in just a few minutes , load him up and go to the next feeder. Reload each feeder when you leave. It shouldn't take over half a dozen trips before he trees something. You can mess with him as long as you want but if he doesn't do something within 6 trips you probably need to look at another dog. I'm talking about a lp up from 10-12 months of age. Forget about training with another dog. If you don't want to hunt alone fina a buddy and alternate drop outs. Don't drop together until you have shot out a few coons to each dog. Learn to hunt by yourself. Training a good coon dog is not complicated if you have coons. If you hunt one dog buy yourself you can learn more in a year than you can bu listening to a dozen old coon hunters give their sage advice. If you will hunt alone for a year and learn how to read your dog( nobody can tell you how to call your dog) you will know as much as any old coon hunter. I'm talking hunting a minimum of 3 nights a week. Not once a month.

Forgot one important thing, get the first coon down to him and take him off the feeders after the second coon and start free casting him. If he starts to lose interest after you take him off the feeder get another dog and start over. dont be surprised if you have to go through a lot of dogs regardless what big name kennel you get them from. The longer you hunt you will find out what you like in a coon dog and don't let a cheerleader for a certain breed influence you. HUNT ALONE.

If the fine is not too high it will be worth it. You can find out really quick if you have something to work with . A dog that's going to turn out like your looking for shows you they want to be a coon dog. The best iv had turned it on the third night. Then take him off the feeders and never mess with any caged animals, drags and things like that. Give him or her a chance at what you really want him to do at the beginning. If you haven't tried it you will be surprised. If you start out with nonsense training you most likely will get nonsense digs.
