I just have a cheep Simmons scope on my 10/22 and it works just fine for me. I sighted it in once and have beat it around pleanty and it is still right on. It has helped pleanty of times when all you can see is an eye reflecting, then you look through and find out the coon is looking out a tiny hole. If a guy were to just use sights, you might never have noticed. For ten dollars those coon can drop dead as a doornail, so why not?

For close range shooting like coonhunting and the like, I like good ol tried and true iron sites. I see no purpose in putting a scope on a .22 you are using to shoot at something that is less than 50 yards away much less 50 feet away in a tall tree.

Now I would put one on say a 17HMR for coyote shooting or something where you have a greater distance to reach your target.

Out here it's definately a plus to have a scope at night. 80- 120 foot fir trees, sometimes you only get one shot if your luck enough to find him.. It cuts down the amount of times I have to re-load in the dark..

SCOPE

HEY, OUT WEST WE NEED A SCOPE FOR SURE AS BUDDY STATED HE LIVES TO THE NORTH OF ME AND HUNTS THE SAME TERRAIN. A COUPLE THINGS I FOUND OVER THE YEARS IS USING DUPLEX CROSS HAIRS (AS MY AGE TAKES A TOLL I LOSE THE CROSS HAIRS WHEN SHINING)ALSO PREFER THE LIGHT AHEAD OF THE SCOPE ,AS FROM BEHIND YOU GET TOO MUCH GLARE THROUGH THE RETICLES. I ALSO SHOOT WITH A LIGHTED RETICLE. (CHECK YOUR STATE FOR LEGALITY) DONT SHOOT CHEAP AMMO EITHER ,IF YOU DIAL IN YOUR GUN AT 50 YDS WITH CCI AMMO, AND SAY SWITCH TO REMINGTON GENERIC AMMO, YOU WILL SEE A SLIGHT DROP AT 50 YDS . HUNT WITH WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO USE DAILY.CHEAP OR TOP END. I JUST RETURNED FROM HUNTING ,HAD THREE COONS UP. I HAD SO MUCH BRUSH I HAD TO BACK OUT 50 YARDS FROM THE TREE TO SPOT EYES, SO IF I WERE TO TAKE THEM IT WOULD REQUIRE A 50 YARD SHOT. HAVING SHOT A LOT THIS WOULD MAKE FOR A DIFFICULT,ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE IRON SIGHT SHOT. AGAIN DEPENDS ON YOU AREA. I ALSO CARRY STEADY STICK BI-PODS FOR SOLID SHOOTING ACCURACY. ANOTHER THING I DO IS TIE THE DOGS UP, IF YOU SHOOT FROM 50 YARDS AWAY A DOG SOMETIMES WILL PULL TO YOUR GUN SHOT. I DO THIS UNTIL I'M COMFORTABLE WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL DOG. I EXECUTE THE SAME DRILLS. UNTIL THE DOGS/ GUN AND I HAVE IT DOWN.

iron sights are what i use on my .22 pistol cuz no matter what i will always kill the coon on one or two shots it never toke me more then 2 before and ive been hunting since i was 5 years old... and me and my dad had a tested it before i always got the coon and 1 to 2 shot and my dad he had a red dot scope and he'd always have to take 3 to 7 shots to kill the coon and the red dot is sighted in right we had 7 people try it and 2 out 7 didnt even get the coon.... it was the same .22 pistol as mine is so iron sights all the way....
