this was talked about a little in the last topic but I wanted to know a little more about coon hunting in the day... Are the tracks colder, does it vary with your location ect.

Never done much...but coons are noctunal...so, by default the tracks would be colder for sure...plus, isn't it more fun to wade through a swamp at night in knee deep mud just as your light dies? lol... Plus, if you went during the day think of all the useless sleep you'd get!

coonin during the day, It's the way to go! are coons nocturnal? generally I hunt as much as I can during the day seem to cut all kinds of tracks from hot to cold as ice. Try going to one of the spots you hunt at nite and hunt in morning as soon as day lite breaks go for it. I have taken several people and converted to daytime cooners  you can also watch your dog do things you never expected..lol...
give it a whirl. later

If you hunt there at night and your catching coons then it should be no different than the day, at least that has been my expierience and I've hunted in the day everywhere I hunt at night :beer your bound to strike coons yet!

Coons move at all times of the night and some are moving anywhere from2-3 hours before dark and up to 10-11 a.m. Why folks think coons are nocturnal only baffles me!!!!!!! Not all morning tracks are cold!!!!!! Not all tracks right after dark are hot!!!!! Only real coon dogs tree coon consistantly no matter what time of day/night or time of year or conditions

Daytime coon hunting is pretty fun and easy. Its pretty much the same as hunting at night, but the only thing different is we always seem to get the coons in there dens.

Here is hemi and baby on a tree stump with a coon in the den/hollow.

I have video, but i am talking and egging the dogs on also, so i dont know if everone would want to see.

I caught a couple coon in the daytime last week, but most of the tracks we start later in the morning end up under a bunch of briars or in big wood piles (log-jams) down by the river. Still fun to hear 'em run and I can see what tracks he's running better.

Up here if you see one during the day it is either dead in the road or it has rabies and is wandering around aimlessly. You will see em just before dark and just before light but never in the middle of the day.

I have caught a lot of coon in the day time. Here in Northern Ca in the summer time the coon like to sleep in the berry patches along the creeks to keep cool. You can generaly get a coon race going anywhere there are briarpatches and water. It's great for pups as they can really get a nose full of fresh coon scent and get close but cant actually catch the coon on the ground because of the thick briars. In the winter time I have never had any success past 8 in the morning and those ended up in den trees.

Racin gt, never say never........In winter time they will come out warmest time of the day! Just cause we don't see them, don't mean they ain't moving! In winter, they only move as far as they have too! Thats the reason for treeing so many in den trees. When weather breaks some, then rut season comes and you get some great races!!!!!! I believe for every one critter we see....at least 10 saw us!!!!!!!

This coon was treed at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Brady's blue dogs and my red one.

My walker dog.

It was a pretty good day I was able to get alot of training done. My dogs received a few reminder's what not to chase and then finished the day with a coon :D

Thanks Irv and brady for letting me tag along.
