Well, after a lot of trash races, tracks that just seemed to end in the briars, etc..., we finally put it together yesterday morning.

I walked him down a little creek bottom until he struck a track that seemed really good (and I couldn't see any deer tracks nearby) so I turned him out and crossed my fingers. He trailed for about ten minutes, settled down with a long locating bawl and proceeded to hammer. Wish I had my camera with me...it was a cool picture. Two big fat coons up in the crotch of a big ol' cottonwood tree looking down at us.

I was his first time so I shot 'em both out to him, but I don't think I'll shoot too many more (those little bastards were kind of hard to skin! . Probably operator error). Speaking of which, does anyone know if there are any tutorials posted on here about skinning coons? Here are the pics.

The pup's name is Huckleberry (9 mo. old)...the other pup's name is Tyler (my son). He'll be eleven at the end of the month and I think he's starting to catch the hound bug too!

nice job. go to youtube, there are a couple videos on there of people skinin coons. also, skin em when they are still warm, like right after you shoot em. makes it a billion times easier.

Yeah...it sure does feel GOOD when you've worked so hard with SO LITTLE return to have a success like that. I was pretty proud of him (MAYBE MY STANDARDS ARE TOO LOW )
