Dewey or anyone: 2 week old pup training
Re: Dewey or anyone: 2 week old pup training
I try to keep an open mind in all aspects of life especially where dogs are concerned but wouldn't a puppy have to be able to stand up before it could sit?

2 months might be more realistic? Maybe that was just a mistake and he meant 2 months not 2 weeks

All right you guys. It shows you how far removed I am from dogs. I have a serious problem that evidently keeps me coming back here ten years after I have even owned a dog. It was time to quit doing that about nine years ago. I have raised litters of puppies, but I cant remember how many weeks it takes them to stand up and run around. I just remember images of them doing it.
So If I ever do have another dog, and I let her raise a litter of puppies, and they get to that 2 week mark, do you think I could let them lounge around the yard and they wont leave and go hunting? Or does that pretty much depend on breeding and the type of music I pipe in to them?

Jason
Not to many years ago you owned two hounds, Nikki & Bucco that I raised a give away to a friend....That boat situation you mention was what I had intended for myself until some woman came along and sank the dang boat!
I suspect David is wise beyond his years and will not step foot in the steel jaw trap I set for him!!!!

Sit at 2 weeks, hell if mine ain't starting tracks by then they get culled. Dewey is gonna have to do better than that if he wants the best internet breeding program in the world.

Re: Dewey or anyone: 2 week old pup training
You guys sure have had some fun while I have been gone. At least David is thinking things out. This is not the first time that I have said that I start training the pups at two weeks old. I start teaching them to eat out of a dish as soon as there eyes open to save on the mother having to feed them all by her self. At that time they will stand and try to come to me for food two weeks or shortly after. When they come toward me I just put hand under chin lift up and push down on butt and give a verbal sit. You will be surprised at how quick a bunch of puppies coming up to you will sit waiting for food. You will also start seeing the difference in personalities. You can get just as much ouy of a dog as you are willing to put in. As far as a perfect bobcat dog that is what I TRY TO BREED. IT CAN'T BE DONE hopefully just better each generation. Sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Just because A dog is a great dog in someone eyes does not mean it will be in another eyes. I breed dogs that I like and that catch bobcats for me that does mean they will work for everybody, can you believe it some people even hunt blueticks on bobcats and even catch a few. Have a good week guys. Dewey

Dewey, you are so patient and kind. I don't know why you keep giving, but I am sure glad you do. I been agonizing over this all night out driving on my job wondering what kind of an idiot I must be. Feeling some joy now. Thanks again for sharing knowledge that I don't deserve to have. It is a lot like grace from God. I don't deserve it, but I receive it with humble gratitude.
It is so simple, and I never would have thought of it on my own in a million years.
Thank You.
