Re: Running Dog Men??
These are my two pups I raised this year. The one on leftis three-quarter Walker and a quarter trigg. The other is three-quarter Walker and a quarter July.Their parents are cat dog Deluxes ! I use mostly coon dog breed hounds in my pack but found out that adding a few good type running hounds has helped my catch percentage. I still have not found a running dog type Hound that has a cold nose.I own some very cold nose Hounds but they are coonhound type .I'm doing what works for me and I do like the running dogs they have a purpose in my pack. Re: Running Dog Men??
Perk, my running has been closed for the last 6 weeks and won't open for a couple more, I've been trolling this site for last couple weeks hoping someone would start something interesting. Starting to even get kind of grouchy without my hound fix. Have even been hoping someone would start a thread that I could disagree on just to get some aggression out. Haha.
I use an I-pad instead of a computer on this site, I don't know if I can post pics or not with it. I'll try to figure it out. If I can't I'll text or e-mail them to you and you can post them if you want.
I have spent several hours the last few nights in the archives of the bobcat section, there is some good stuff here.
I bred my old strike/check dog that I got from southernfox, with her layed up, a couple of the young dogs stepped up and did good.
Was roading 3 of them one night for 3 hours without hardly a tail wag so I turned out a 8 month old pup (off 2 of flacathunters dogs) just to get it some roading training. I had let it run loose at home till it got to staying gone to much, I know it was running rabbits and a couple of feral cats that hang around here. Well I didn't go 200 yards and the pup turned out the road screaming on something, the other 3 charged up the road and in the woods behind her. Befor I got to where they turned out those 3 came boiling back into the road. They wanted nothing to do with it! Found the track, it was a yearling deer. Was the first time she'd been on the ground in front of the truck so I didn't try to correct her but she put a running on that deer, took almost an hour to get her cut off and caught. She's been in a couple of fox races since then so she is about to start learning what not to run.
It's fixing to get right here, going to run the wheels off of them for the next 6 months.

Running Dog Men??
Here are some of my running dog crosses I use on cat here in south Texas. The third picture is of a straight running walker gyp I used on cat until she was 2 years old. At that time I introduced her to blood trailing. She got so good at it that I retired her from cat hunting and used her strictly for blood trailing. When I was hunting her on cat, she was my best locater in my pack at that time. I lost her this summer at 9 years old. She was a smart little gyp.
Re: Running Dog Men??
South Texan, hounds look good, always hate when a special one gets old and dies.
Scrubb sorry you can't get the hunting fix online lol. What you breed that gyp too?

Re: Running Dog Men??
South Texan: Each one of your dogs are excellently put together dogs, top line to the ground. I do notice that the tails are short. I have seen dogs that kept their tails so injured on heavy brush that the tails had to be partially removed. I am guessing that you shorten the tails at a few days old in the fashion that many Cur dog owners do. I have spent just enough time in Texas to know that anything that you touch will either cut, stick, sting or bite you. Am I guessing close to correct?????

Re: Running Dog Men??
I wanted to breed her to a male southernfox is breeding to but it had been over a year since she had been in heat. She's about 9 yrs old now and I didn't want to miss the only chance I might have to get pups off her so I kenneled her with my Male off Gowens Smokey G x Get Ahead Pepper. Was hoping I'd see her coming in and would take to southernfoxs male but I went to the pen Father's Day and they were hooked up. I couldn't even tell then she was in, wasn't swelled or dripping a bit.But that why I had her with him just in case that happened. He is a good solid hound, cold nose, got a little extra knotch of speed (or did in his younger days). I deer/fox hunted and field trailed him before I started my broke fox/cat dog endeavor. I only deer hunted him for the last 3-4 years but he likes a fox better and starts quite a few while deer hunting. He's like all of them, got a couple of traits im not crazy about but a good solid hound. I'm running some young dogs off him now that's I'm happy with.
She had 5 pups, 2 died first day, got 3 that are 6 weeks old, 1 female 2 males.

Perk, you haven't posted any pictures of your hounds yet. I'd sure like to see them. Thanks and good post. It was getting dull on here.

Re: Running Dog Men??
Southtexan, you said yours were running dog cross. What kind of cross? Looks to me like walker x treeing walker cross maybe. If that's right are they 1/2 and 1/2 or more of one than the other?
Mark, those are some stout looking dogs, I remember the alpha page you posted a while back, I know they can get after one.
Ridgerunners, good looking hounds and congrats on the great opening weekend.

South Texan, go to bottom of index page to breed section, I originally started this thread in there, I posted about 9 pics of some of mine in the dog pens, don't wanna post any pics of mine with caught game on here, always anti hunters lurking
