Changing the frequency of your wildlife blue box.

Postby bowtech36 » Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:09 pm

Has anyone changed the crystal in your blue box to change it's frequency, wildlife can do it for 150 but i was told you can do it at home, purchase the crystal at radio shack. So i was wondering if any of you DIY kinda guys have done so. If so you could you tell me how it went. I want to change my box 219.000-219.640 to 219.360-219.999.

It takes two minutes, just remove the chip and replace it. It will take you ten times longer to open the box then it does to swap out the crystal. It should probably need tuned to the new freq. though. That is what takes some special equipment.

So they do have to be tuned to the new frequency, that was my one of my concerns after my father in law mentioned it. So, basically they need to be sent in? Thanks for the info Dean, seams as if your stockpiled with interesting stuff.

Well, depends on what collar. If its a sealed collar, then you'll have to send it back in to the manufacturer or a company like Collar Clinic.

I sent a couple Johnson's back and had them change em out for me. As I recall, it wasn't very expensive. But it was a long time ago. You'd have to cut away the resin making sure not to damage anything inside. Probably not worth the risk. At least to me.

Some truck stops have radio techs either on or near there locations. Try your local police or fire depts. Some do it in house some don't, might be worth a shot.
