A 100-pound male mountain lion was shot near the former Home Depot building in Bismarck around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Marvin Beck and his family spotted the animal crossing Calgary Avenue toward a vacant field.
Beck called the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. Two wardens responded and asked for assistance from the Bismarck Police Department.
For public safety, wardens had police officers shoot the animal with a shotgun while it sat on a rock pile.
The police killed the animal because it was in city jurisdiction.
It was 6 feet long. Wardens are still determining its age, where it came from and why it was in city limits.
The NDGF took custody of the animal’s remains.
Warden Bruce Burkett said there is no concern of another mountain lion being in the area.
