I have noticed for a long time now that some of my smartest and well
mannered animals make very little eye contact they seem to be focused on buisness only. I have also noticed those animals meaning horses mules and dogs keep some what to themselves.

Hey they are smart all right but I`m part native american indian and I ues eye contack with horse and dogs and transfeer my spirit intoo my animals spirit and it works in the ways I can not explain away nor in anyway confirm too you how it works/ but I`ve won a lot of cast draws by doen it and my dogs mind and have a ack too come-up doing something that hunt that is just surprizeing~
On nightvI was the cast guide & cast hunting judge on a ACHA hunt in Ca. I took em too the river-bottems and I`d been there just 2 nights befor with ol Arlin Tillus on a club Challange Trophy Hunt for the San Joaquinehoundsmen club we both belonged to.
This night I drew 3 youngsters with me it was 83 I believe and I was hunten my male redbome/ Pepper`s Burgandy Hank . It was dec or jan or feb. I cant remember but I remember it was high flood stage river levey hunten and cold out that night. I was hunten a broke coon dog also. Well there dogs struckin 1,2,3 and was on the clock and on the score card my dog didn`t bark and in no time he come out of the maybe 15 yds wide strip of mud and brier bushes with small tree line on it and he come up on the mudd rd and woundered off up an head.
There dogs cold trialed up and then caught and had what ever it was they had caught but no squellen nothen/just end of it . About then here come Hank back by and he winded over too the 3 dogs and he come parked it by my foot standing there looken at me. I said boys end of track and they said they must had made him swim !? I said no but we can go see ?They said wd`d have too swim over too em or back trail and go inon that strip and walk 2/3 a mile back up here to were they are now . I said we will put 10 minutes on em and 2 minutes has allready elaptsed. Mu dog had walked away from me and was winden around but not buyen-in on any of this mess ! Someone said your dog isent worken ? i SAID NO HES NOT AD HES GONE TOO THE END OF THIS SMALL STRIP OF GOUND SUROUNDED BY THE RIVER IN FLOOD STAGE AND HAS NO WERES TOO GO NOW ? i`LL TELL YA WHAT BOYS IF i CAN PROVE YOUR TRACK DIDN`T SWIM BUT THERE CHEWING ON IT AND ITS NOT A COON/ WILL YA TAKE THE STRIKE MINUSE PTS AND NO HARN=M NO FOWLL TOO MY DOG HERE FOR PROVEN IT ?!
tHEY SAID OK AND WE VOTED IT AND IT CARRIED 4-0 SO UNDER THE SPORTSMANSHIP RULE IT WAS A GO . i SAID hANK/GET TOO EM BOY GO AND i`D NEVER DONE THIS BEFOR ! hE LOOKED ACROST THE LITTLE WARER SPAND BETWEEN THE LEVY RD AND THE WATERS EDGE LINE STRIP AND AGAIN i SAID GO TOO EM GET THEG ! HE SWAM RIGHT ACCROST AND WHENT IN TO THE BRUSH AND RIGHT TOO EM. wE HURD SOME GROWLLEN AND i YELLED BRING IT HERE BOY BRING HIM TOO ME ! (i sware this is true) AND THEN SLOWLY OLE hANK APEARS OUT OF THE BRUSH BY HIMSELF AND IN HIS MOUTH IS SOME FUR ANDHE SWIMS ACROST TOO ME AND WALKS UP TOO US AND DROPES IT AR MY FEET ! iTS A YOUNG JACKRABITT AND PRETTYMUCH ATE/BUT HEAD/FEET AND TAIL STILL ATACHED TOO THE HIDE AN FUR AND IS FRESH A WARM TOO YOUE HAND !
! guy wants now too scratch my dog for growllen and for haveing offgame he brought too us and the other2 said no we voted it allready no harm no fowl ! He said how about the growllen then? I said son do you know which dog that was of the 4 dogs in the brush that growled ? maybe it was the one son that was eaten the rabbit and he didn`t want my redbone too take it from him ! He said but your dog was the only dog too apear out of the brush ith it ! Yea I said and your 3 is sneaken back too were they struck and will shortly meet us right here like nothen ever happened !
What I told here happened and other time different things happend with this hound and ole Suggar my female redbone on pt huntsand with my too English hounds on pt hunts / Wattsons Great Gizzmo anf Denver . All because I looked into there eyes for maybe 2-3 minutes befor the hunts at the tail gate and holden their heads between my hands so they couldn`t turn away from the stare of my gazeing into their eyes. They would settle-in eventually and accept it andthen after about 30 second more I stoped doing it and petted em and it worked for me. Ronnie Monroe come over too my hunten rigg at a hunt one night and had watched from a distance and he asked me if I knew this pituclar hunter he knew ? I disclaimed it and he said he does that very samething and could then beat ya with the dog. I got it from that same ol hunter but ya dont have nor need too tell every thing ya know sometimes~ hahahaha

I've had running hounds that would check in and make eye contact so you could direct them to another patch of cover or the area you wanted to head into and have them work. I've also had hounds that wouldn't look at you if they came upon you during the day until you caught them up well after dark and over half a day after being cast. Interesting ovbservation on eye contact Thomas Thomas.

Eye contact? this is very interesting.
The Bible says the light of the body is the eye.In other references they eye is spoken as they mirror of the soul. Many have watched an animal or person expire and you will see the light leave the eye. the eye is very powerful it allows one to see the actual energy that is the being be it animal or human. It is that energy not just a beating heart and skin and bone that makes it alive. The breath of life is actually energy and we all have certain amounts of energy some more than others.
Animals don't rely on the usual manner of communication that most humans do, they act upon body language, or sounds or that energy that can be transmitted even without the other senses beiong involved. This is the reason some animals like dogs can pick up on a humans emotions or intents without actually seeing, hearing or smelling that person. this is the area of senses that critters and humans have that are seldom tapped into by humans who have had themselves desentitized by a day to day modern world.
Native american Culture understands this more than most and they avoid eye contact as a manner of respect. And they allow to the elder or higher power before making direct contact. Dogs also have bred within their lineage all the way back to the wolf a chain of command and respect of order. Now this can become messed up and you have a disorderly dog, but if the Alpha or pack leader established himself and enforces his postion then things fall back into order. I know this could be a very deep subject and I do want to go off on a tangent on this, but I also beleive that hounds or dog follow more than just smells when they are really in tune with the quarry they are after. Each particular beast gives off an energy field which certainly like scent dilutes with time. some dogs become very intune with these and will draw to them if allowed. the very best strike dogs usually display a good bit of this talent.
A lot to think about.
