GPS tracking systems

Anybody use GPS tracking systems? i was just wondering if anyone has bought or used them. i am looking at buying one but don't know what kind and if it's worth it.

My buddy just bought one used it once the antenna broke and could only get out about 900 yards in open country. It is really nice outfit when it works, They need to get way more range out of it. Needless to say he sold it that week.
