OOC's Dominic Aiello is a fine individual with the best intentions, he just lacks knowledge to be a lobbyist for Oregon and couldn't make a case to defend himself against the attacks by Gomberg in this matter?
This would be my response to Gomberg....How about this for starters, 87 of the 90 within the Oregon Legislature in Salem, representing both the House and Senate voted for these bills, that includes you Sir!
Dear Representative Gomberg
I'm at a loss on your position of sport hunting with hounds. If you oppose hounds? Why did you support H.B.2390 the agent bill by voting yes on June 6, 2013? You must not be aware of what ODFW allows USDA Aphis Wildlife services to engage in here in Oregon? Are you aware every spring USDA contracts with corporate timber producers to eradicate problem tree peeling black bears? Yes, the timber producer does pay by the acre, if you were to conduct an audit? You will find this covers only a fraction of the cost. I don't think sport hunter dollars or tax paying citizens should be supplementing or funding one dime of these programs!
Did you know hounds were once legal and allowed for selection before harvesting, allowing the hunter to walk away from a lactating sow with cubs? Do you know what the baited/scented ankle catch foot hold snare is? It's what replaced our hounds as a management tool for controlling black bears. If you oppose hounds? How could you support this egregious instrument of death? Baiting or scents to attract to private corporate timber lands direct from Forest Service, BLM and O&C lands was never explained to you, was it? Why did you support banning of baiting of black bears, cougars and authorize this? Do you know USDA kills the baby cubs and leaves them to rot on these timber lands? To verify this claim? Simply request any pdf formatted black bear harvest report from ODFW's Richard Green in Corvallis Oregon and read the report, pick a year from 2010 to present and you will verify my claim, look at the age and you'll not see any one year old and very few two year old cubs on any of these reports! Why do you think this is? Can you imagine a government vehicle being spotted with a sow and dead baby cubs weighing as little as fifteen pounds in the back of a vehicle funded by we the people?
Probably wouldn't be well received by the general public, if it's not well received by sport hunters! WS or L for landowner is the column to reference the answer. Do you know USDA contracts with ODFW to eradicate over populated cougar in Oregon in targeted locations and are under directive from ODFW to pursue cougars randomly? The agent is instructed to euthanize all cougars, including baby kittens? Just reference the attached email and read for yourself. Do you know ODFW landfills those management cougars or as Mr. Rick Boatner, past assistant manager of the Corvallis regional office of ODFW explained to me, incinerates or cremates our big game mammals? Some how this is a better alternative than sport hunters coveting their harvest? Why does every State in the Nation allow sport hunting for deer and elk? Answer, Sport hunters are management tools for each perspective State!
Please read Retired Administrator Anglin's conformation! How did this happen? Hounds were banned as a management tool for controlling over populated cougar and bears, this is the evolution over many years since 1994! Wildlife management objectives can not be reached without hounds and why ODFW asked for H.B. 2971 in 2007 and the re-upped version in 2013, H.B. 2390. Yes Sir Mr. Gomberg, your on the yes vote list! Currently Oregon sells some 44,000 otc cougar tags for boot hunters, hires USDA, utilizes volunteer houndsmen and has an out of control cougar population! The same with black bears! How can this be fixed? Time to get USDA out of hunting and return hound hunting to the citizens! If hounds are inhumane and unethical? Why do you support government hounds and not private hounds? Why do you support the snare and not the bear hound? You simply can't have it both ways. Safe to say your position is hypocritical at best!
So Oregon and California? Please explain to me why your political lobby can't make this case to defend your hound hunting heritage?
You houndsmen could change this...It wouldn't cost a penny....All that's required? Get the State and Federal Government out of your hound hunting! California is distracted by trying to retain the use of GPS while packs of government hounds head out daily to eradicate cougar and bears over hounds, where do you suppose those cougar and bear end up? Probably the same place as Oregon.......Good grief! Both States simply need lobbyist that understand what's going on in both States!
I have the emails from ODFW's Anglin - Boatner and USDA's Williams to support all my claims listed above.
You ever find yourself engaged in a fair fight? Your tactics suck!
