I agree, in this day and age with all the opposition al the time against the sport of running hounds and all hunting for that matter we all have to operate all the time with the knowledge that someone is watching and listening that is against hunting with hounds or at the very least uneducated about it. To think that there is no one on this site that looks around to see what houndsman are up to is naive' and one would have to have their head in the sand to think otherwise.

With that in mind how do you think others not involved in this sport react to the quote of kicking a puppy or handles like kill em all, bear killer, lion killer , coon killer etc. Some may not care what others think, but come on why throw fuel on the fire. A fight for your life as a houndsman is occurring right now. Whe everyone is on here BS'ing back and forth, PETA, the Humane Society and others are strategizing about how to shut hound hunting down.


Now what can be done to "batten down the hatches" ?????

Our thoughts:

-no CB radio or computer handles that portray the disrespect in the harvesting of game or mistreatment of animals

-no videos available to the public that the public could view as inhumane to wildlife or hounds, no harvesting of game on film . We believe the harvesting of game has no entertainment or educational value. The harvesting of game should be between the hunter and the animal, not everyone that wants to pay $29.95 and especially not PETA.

-houndsman groups need to be viewed as conservation organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Mule Deer Foundation, etc. This will be hard to do.

-Harvested game should be hauled covered not on the top of your truck for everyone to see, and should be cared for properly as to not waste

What else can be done to improve the image of houndsmen and houndswomen?????

I have found that most of the public wants to know if you are harvesting an animal to eat.. This is why it's hard to defend our sport, even other hunters think chasing an animal with dogs is unethical. I've tried to explain game management and to many predators but it goes one ear and out the other.. Next time someone asks tell them there's nothing better than bear or cougar steaks and that is why you harvest one, once they think you eat it, in their minds its easier to understand.

I think most people took the saying the wrong way. Nobodys talking about kicking there puppy, It's crazy how some one can say somthing on here and the subject gets switched around to say that we're all a bunch of dog beaters. It's the meaning behind the saying.

The impershion I was giving was a lession, that was handed down from my Grandfather. And for you to be so naive is asinine. The meaning was given to you by URE in the post above. And if you find the that to be"unethical" you are crazy! Would you like us to remove the rails from our dog boxes , and and hunt with bird dogs..... Which are and still used to presue wild life.. Iam not going to go under ground I love this sport, and for some one to be so ignorant with A saying that is explained is not hitting the mark. IM not hear to pick and poke at people but Iam defending my fright in free speach. And for the behavior I have seen makes me wonder, if you are one step closer to be a member of peta or animal rights. And it is Our choice aspeople to take photos or harves wildlife on camera. Their for saying that you would be atacking any hunting show on t.v. In america or any other country in the world,. The saying is not unethical the way that you took it was. I have no more to say about this, And my signiture stays, as an analogy is not harming you or any other person. We did understand the explanation written above after being explained it, but our point was that someone on here opossed to hunting would not. God bless your grandfather and all other old timers (we are among that group) with these old time sayings and for teaching and giving lessons in their own way.

Free speech, absolultely, we believe in it and both the old man's family and mine have died to keep it.

As far as our thoughts on how houndsmen operate and portray themselves, these are our thoughts. We cannot give the anti-hunting groups an inch, or the will take a mile. We say give them no ammunition to use against hunting. That doesn't mean to hide or act like we are lower class because we follow hounds it means to think about what we do and consider how someone not familiar with the sport will view any particular action we are involved in.

We still believe the actual harvesting of game is not a spectator sport and should not be filmed. Ask hunters in Oregon, Washington and California what their thoughts were when they saw TV commercials put on by animal rights groups to "shock and awe" the public into voting to eliminate the use of hounds on lion and bear. Again just our opinion.

Houndswoman, appeasement is NOT a strategy. The old saying " you give an inch, they take a mile". These people don't need people on the internet giving them stuff. They make it up if they need too. Very few of these nuts are rational. Most of them disagree with HUNTING in principle. How many people are going to say. " I was going to vote "NO" on this intiative to ban hound hunting but I saw that some guy on the internet uses the handle "bearkiller." Thats just stupid. I agree with where your heart is but the point is that we should fight on EVERY issue. Theres nothing wrong with cameras or videos. I lived and hunted in washington when they lost their hunting it wasn't fun. It also would have passed with or without the video. All that said, its a pointless, stpid saying.
