its 3 generations (14 hounds) and yes that is a good thing. So if you have paperwork that has a hound that is "PR" then he has to have 14 hounds behind him that are pure based on registration.

One other thing to remember that when looking at a pedigree the abbreviations are not the important things. They may tell you if the dog was "CH" but it will also tell you what type of dog you should expect your dog to be if you know the dogs before him. That is the important part of the papers not weather or not the dog has any letters before his name. If you can do this then you are truley reading the pedigree and not looking at it. That is what makes papers worth having, weather they are from UKC, AKC, or just hand written.

Well as we all know papers sometimes don't mean much. But why don't you give us (me) an education on how to read papers.

sounds like you've got UKC papers in front of you.
Go to the UKC site and look for their registration info.
Then go to the site for the national breed club--Buddy has links from this site for all of them, I think. If not, Buckshot has them on Coondawgs.com. They determine the registration requirements for single registration.
Then go to the UKC board for that breed and ask about specific dogs in your pup's background, especially ones the breeder is proud of.
