Slash Ranch Hounds

Post by jst »

I saw Emily's post and it has caused me to want to ask a question I have had for sometime. Is there an actual bloodline of hound that is called slash ranch, or is it based on the local? If its a bloodline who developed it and when.

Thanks in advance.

No actual bloodline called Slash Ranch. Dub Evans the elder of the Evans clan after his Dad Joe passed on was the true influence behind this ( Strain) of hounds. They started from and American Foxhound called the original Brownie and then with crosses on redbone, bloodhound and black and tans they came up with some very good linebred crosses that were known for durability, and cold trail power for extreme big game hunting in the rugged and arid southwest. Dub always wanted to call his line the Brownie Line because from the original Brownie to old Brownie and down to Little Brownie these dogs all carried much of the same blood.

The famous Lee brother bred to and also got hounds from Dub that turned out to be some of their best jaguar and lion hounds ever. They always said Dub Evans was the finest and most hones hound man they ever met. Dub also incorporated some of the blood from Dale lee's famous Pilot dog before he went of the bluff in the Cherrycows.
