My oldest son came to visit over Mothers Day and my daily routines were altered somewhat. I typically keep my dogs seperated at night after feeding and let them back together in the morning for the day. I have 3 females and one male(all intact and whole) so I keep an eye on the girls and document their cycles. For three days I just fed and sprayed the pens out, because of the high pace of the weekend. On Sunday morning I turned them all out quickly on my way to church.
Returning home late Sunday night I discovered two of my females in full blown heat (swelled& bleeding) and my male totally disinterested. I concluded they were both bred, put the girls up and kept them seperated till cycles were complete. (2weeks)
July 4th I had two hounds showing all the signs of delivering around the perspective date of July 14th. I fixed their brood boxes and started supplementing with liver & cottage cheese. By the delivery date they both seemed to just be drying up. Fatter than town hounds but obviously not pregnant. Any ideas??? One still has nipple secretions.
Bred females didnt deliver. ????

False pregnancy. I've seen it happen once. I bet someone else will know more than I.

Yes ,false pregnancy.Forgive me if you already know this but a female usually won't accept a male until the 8th day AFTER the first sign of blood .The heat cycle usually goes like this 7 days coming in,they'll accept the male the next 7 days and then 7 days going out. That's a typical heat cycle but some females will vary somewhat .

I appreciate the responses, and yes I am familiar with breeding timing, but I was thrown off by the fact that my male (who is always in heat) had absolutely no interest in the girls that evening.
It is indeed a blessing for me because of timing. I just never experienced the false pregnancy issue before. Thanks for everybody,s input.
