this has all stemed up out of nowhere in the last month, also him and another dog of mine got into it loading up the other night,
any advice?
he is a house hound
still has all his parts
no issues with aggression at home

thanks

cull him before he passes on his bad habits to your other dogs. Growly dogs have no place in a hunting pack. JMHO

How long have you had this dog and the "Other" dog in the dog box fight ? Did it fight the same dog at the tree or a different dog? Need more info.!!

If you decide to have him cut, which is probably a good move, just be aware that sometimes the results are not always instantaneous. There is still testosterone in the dogs system that will probably take a while to be completely gone. Just saying this so if you don't see immediate results you will give the dog a while to come around, some dogs just take a while but in all likelihood it will improve his behavior. Good luck with your dog.

thanks for the advice,
I have had him for almost a year,
no issues yesterday
the other dog has been around me for just as long but 5 years older than the youngster.
never fought at the tree just got growly when jumped on and bumped into and immediately tied him to a tree.
I would hate to cut him he is a beautiful dog, I want to try all other possibilities before I resort to that

I would have zapped the piss outta him but have never had this issue before, so I was running with no shocker, my buddy seems to think that the dog he got into it with is the issue he, he actually isn't my dog its a friends that stays with me, buddy swears up and down that the other dog was the instigator in the incident, it was my first time running this dog with us.

Don't mean to sound like a jerk , But are you saying that because he is a beautiful dog you would consider breeding him ? I would never breed any dog that shows aggressiveness to another dog. Let along knowingly hunt with one. The only reason two dogs should be bred is because they are at the top of their game and have NO major faults . Not because they are beautiful.

I've seen a couple males that were cut for being mean at the tree .They were just as mean after they were cut as they were before. You'll save a lot of headaches and hunting buddy's by getting rid of the dog now .Another option would be to hunt the dog alone.

Same situation. Cutting worked for my dog, now he is usable even if my females are in heat.
I hated to do it but it was either cut him and hope it worked, or never be able to hunt him with other males.
It has made him a better dog all the way around.
In addition, you will save your relationship with hunting partners. They will appreciate that you recognized the problem and at least tried to address it.
Ask yourself, what if it was the other guys dog, what would you expect from him?

Did you say the "Other Dog" may have started this ????? Tie them together and watch, then put them in the Box together and watch, even feed them together to see who is doing what!!! Then fry the dog or dogs and do it again, If there's any sign of aggression. Dispose of the one or maybe Both if they don't respond. Best to do it now and not take em out together till your sure. The old dog may be jealous of the new dog and it"s the guilty one? Can't Blame a Dog defending it's self !! JMO!!!

Did you have a female in heat? Sometimes males get surly even if the female is left home. I think dog fights in the box are more of a territorial and or dominance issue and most of the time don't transfer to the woods. A dog showing aggression at the tree is an entirely different issue. A lot of dogs have gotten killed on tree fights. One growl at the tree should've resulted in the young dog getting a severe whipping at minimum.
