Guess I'm pretty bored. The wife's family is coming in from the east coast so I'm not allowed to be gone for a while. Anyway besides that misery I was reading those other hound forums for the first time in a long while. It seems they have come to the understanding it don't matter how fast or pretty that dog is barking at a tree its not very productive if there isn't anything in it. I remember when every stud ad showed a dog foaming at a tree. Now they're preaching accuracy. I was thinking maybe if those dogs actually trailed a critter up to the tree or at least smelled it before it would fall treed it might ease their worries. Makes me think maybe my ol mutts that might be chewing on a branch or milling around the tree convinced it might slip down the back side are OK. Maybe its just experience that teaches them that once in awhile that lion will slip off given half a chance. Or they know ol June isn't above pulling a bobcat down if she can? I know coon hunting is a different game and competition coon is way over there. But can you enjoy winning so much you don't care if there's game in the tree? I'd rather walk in to a pup screaming at a squirrel or older dog swearing its not a fox then a bunch of idiot dogs abusing a empty tree. Well I'll keep hoping they start treeing actual coons or something and pray the new houndsmen out there get a hound and not a flop eared beaver.

I think what has increased the number of false treeing idiots in the registered breeds is the fact that they're not punished for it in the UKC competition hunts . If i understand the rules right and a dog false trees his tree points are circled (not minused ) if there is a possibility that a coon could be up there . If and when they start taking away points when no coon is seen you'll probably see tree hounds getting a lot more accurate .
