We need your help. ODFW is in the process of passing a law making it illegal to use a raccoon in a field trial or water race in Oregon under a ruling called Division 044. If this law passes, it will be illegal to transport a raccoon or use one at a field trial or water race, set to become law on or around June 10th, 2016. Public comments welcome......Please send an email to ODFW Commission telling them you are opposed to Division 044.
This is just one step closer for ODFW (Oregon State Government) in eliminating all of our hound hunting rights here in Oregon. ODFW partnered with the HSUS, Audubon Society, OSP, Dept. of Ag., Wildlife diversity staff, OHA, Exotic pet industry along with very liberal anti hound hunting veterinarians to draft the original proposal and failed to invite any of the stakeholders to the same table! While National politics is important, just know we will lose all that is near and dear to us in State by doing nothing about it! I know most don't care about field trials or water races, this is just the weakest link to bobcat hunting in Oregon that will be next, by the way? ODFW is set to evaluate the small game regulations in June, so grab your shorts folks, hopefully unlike the last attempt to take 40% of our Eastern bobcats away from us, we will have more than two houndsmen in Salem defending our god given rights!

Mike, I know there is a Fern Ridge hound club but whatever happened to Mary's Peak hound club? I'm 4hrs away and that's if your speeding! I joined the club last year and never received one "Notice"! If it weren't for you much of this would go unnoticed ! Thank You !! I've sent my Ballot in already and will call Salem to voice my opinion!!!!!

Hey Mike, I thought of you when I read this. Teddy Roosevelt can be kind of unpopular, but these are great words of his from a speech in 1910 after he emerged from a year-long Safari after his presidency.

Mike keep up the good work. Wish I could vote or right letters to help you out, but as I am not an Oregon voter wouldn't be much help. Keep fighting the good fight for the kids and young people that can't vote for what they love.

Its pretty bad when they take away the ability to train hounds or anything like that. Mike every thing you do helps protect our sport nation wide. If they win in one state they just move to the next.

I have been away from here over the last few weeks....I have a request submitted for a hearing in Salem and waiting for the folks to catch their breath...I have placed some serious heat on ODFW and they struggle dealing with me.......I made my position crystal clear...When you live in a glass house, you best watch it or you will bust a bunch of your own windows...They are trying to figure out how to deal with the unexpected....The intent of our State Government wasn't to grow and expand the Federal Government and that's just what happened here in Oregon. We lost our bear hounds to the ankle catch snare, a device ten thousand times more inhumane than our hounds. When ODFW said they were going to eliminate our coon used in field trial / water races, I unloaded on them ......I started gathering FOIA request beginning in 2009 and have facts in hand.....The pin headed woman who is in charge of the bear program for ODFW allowed USDA to bury the first year cubs without documentation, she was dating our County trapper at the time and thought she could do as she pleased, pretty sure this is a conflict of interest maybe?....According to my information under the FOIA, USDA currently owes ODFW around one million dollars in restitution for theft of a valuable resourse, those baby bear cubs that by definition are big game mammals prior to becoming a predator....Translation...You can't kill the first year cubs and bury them...They must be collected for age-sex etc.....I'm mandated by law to check in all my bear kills within ten days or I face the long arm of the law.... I been doing ADC work on a professional level since 1983 and can call bullshit where and when it needs called. It would be one thing to lose our battles to the HSUS but damn sure another when we must engage our State and Federal government instead....My plan is to break the dogs from sucking eggs! This can be very dangerous and quite frankly, I could give a s@$% less!
I received a letter from the same biologist claiming the yellow breasted chat birds Oregon State's status is sensitive to critical....We get kicked off the water race pond and I take pictures of a guy coming off the pond from fishing with an older german short hair pointer and a young pointer pup? Apparently our hounds are the only conflicting problem for the damn bird? Folks, you can't fix this kind of stupid! These people define minority profiling of our hound user group to a tee! I posted some pictures to illustrate the level of ignorance these people display in their attacks against us and our hounds! Sad when all of us share more in common with the HSUS than our very own ODFW.....
ODFW claims we stress the coon by floating it across the pond and call it the inhumane tratment to animals and this is what replaced our bear hounds?
This cub showed up in a park and was looking for a handout...Coincidence it was during the snare season on corporate timer lands? It's mother was caught in a snare and this cub fled prior to USDA killing and burying it.
I drove by the water race pond and snapped a few pictures of the daily use.... We houndsmen are restricted from using this same pond because of the yellow breasted chat bird but apparently bird dogs pose no issues for the chat?

What I posted is just a fraction of what I have, it just serves to prove just how ignorant these people really are! I don't think any of us would have a problem meeting our game departments half way if the proposals are reasonable. The real problem is our ODFW Commission who nurtures this nonsense and has a passion for the HSUS have been kept in the dark until now....This is a classic example of top end Government management keeping the top four in the loop with what they engage in, while all the rest remain clueless, all that is changing fast....When I send emails with a letter and graphic pictures I link up our State representatives I feel we can work with. This is going to get very ugly, real soon.....All I can say is, it's needs too!

Mike, I just can't help but wonder what the liberal city dwellers will think when they find out the methods our ODFG uses to slaughter(manage ) our surplus lion and bear population?
I believe the information you have ,especially the pictures could be very valuable to other states fighting the anti-hound movement.
