California mountain lion extermination campaign, kill them or dont kill them?

It seems the mountain lion numbers in the state of California have gotten out of control. The lions reproduced like a rat infestation and killed all the wildlife food. Then some of them starved to death, and started eating each other. Some of them when to the city's and lived off back yard dogs and house cats. Should we start an extermination campaign? kill them off for a while until the deer and elk numbers rebound?
