Marine Radios and Garmin problem? / Radio preference

I read a post from a while back about the Garmins getting burned out by radios when they are transmitting....is this still a problem? What are some of you guys using? I have an astro 320 and a handheld marine radio but I'm going to get one for the truck soon... so thoughts on this??? Or even recommendations on a radio/ antennae you like. Thanks
