This has already been discussed on a post. Just look it up and research it.

A kennel 2 feet by 3 feet is also big enough to keep a dog alive but it is far from being what is best for your dog. You have to be realistic and understand that the majority of hounds don't get taken out and excersised near enough. Hounds are athletic and should be given the largest area possible to keep them both mentally and physically in shape. A larger dog run will keep your dog from having cronic sore feet (read all the post on here every year) when you hunt them. They can run and excersise all day long playing with the other dogs. The advantages of a larger run far outwiegh any advantage a kennel has. I kept my dogs in kennels for 15 years before I switched over to a one acre run 12 years ago. There in no comparison.
The number one problem most houndsmen have is dogs barking while in the kennel. The reason they are barking is because they are bored. The reason they are bored is because they are stuck in a tiny kennel with nothing to do day after day, week after week and month after month. So to prevent your next post in a year from now about what to do with your dog that barks all the time, try to come up with a better set up then a tiny kennel. It can be done. You just have to decide whats best for your dog.

My dogs are in an 8 x 8 kennel, and they do great. I used to have them on a chain but I was always worried about them getting wadded up on the stake. I have an area set up outside the kennels that they can run and play and not get out, ( unless they really want to, because a hound dog can get out of anything). As far as barking goes--- well I have neighboring dogs that bark all night and my dogs dont make a peep unless there is something strange going on. I do get my dogs out when I can and make sure I spend plenty of time with them, which is more than I spend with my wife and kid. By the way I have added shade to these since the picture was taken. and the run they can screw around in freely is about a 1/8 of an acre.
