Garmin DC 30 and Marine Radios

Post by Cathntr »

I have heard when using marine band radios it can or will ruin the DC 30 garmin collars.
Has any heard of this problem or experienced this. I havn't had any problems. If any one
has please let me know how it affected it.

Thanks, Happy Bear Hunting

o yes we are having problems. check out these past threads.

if you have not had problems you are lucky or are just use to loosing signal at 5-7 hundred yards.

there is a great deal of info at viewforum.php?f=20

I think the reason no one else has responded is because they are all talked out on this topic. but there is alot of people burning their units up with marine radios or a frequency close to the murs band. just call garmin and they will admitt it now.

Yes, read all the forums already on this. A ton of info already in print. To make it quick and short though. Yes they will if using the mag mount antenna, or any truck mounted antenna. Otherwise with standard antenna it is highly unlikely. I have yet to be able to do it. Then I will not run a truck mounted antenna just to be on the safe side. The closer you get to the Garmin channels the more apt you are to do damage. Transmit on the same channels and nothing will save it.

You talking about a mag base antenna for the GPS unit or one for the marine radio. I got myGPS system last bear season and used it during lion season and no problems.

he is talking about the mag antenna sold by garmin to attach to your 220. alot of people disagree on this. garmin is still selling them and say they will not increase your chances to damage your unit.

they do increase your range to about double of what you are getting. I have sent them back with and without using the roof mount antenna and while using no raido at all.

you need to go to the links i gave and you can get all the info you could possibly stand.

I talked to one cat hunter (in personn i know and trust) that uses no raido at all he has sent back over 10 units and now says he finally got one that works right. he said they just break for no reason at all and you need to send them back until you get one that works right.

if i was you i would hang your collar on a post or something at the house and drive away until you loss siginal. then park and get out of the car if not using the roof mount antenna. start backtracking until you can get continus signal and that will be your range. then do the same thing every once in a while. then you will know what your unit should do. if you think you are haveing problems repeat this exercise and if your unit is loosing strenth you will then know.

everyone should do this as soon as they get their unit or they will have no base to start with.

what kind of range are you getting.

Im getting about 1.5 miles out of mine with just the antenna that comes with the unit.
Last weekend tracking the dogs I was in a deep canyon and had to use the long range
antenna and the dogs were only 1.2 to 1.3 miles from us.
