Stop hunting her with your pups is about all you can do. A dog that old should never leave a tree especially one with a bear in it. I'm sure it's not what you were looking for but that is the best help i can be.

They're either bred to tree or not. Lots of dogs dont have that tree power and thats one thing you cant make them do... I would imagine this is a "new to you" dog so cut your losses and get rid of her.
At that age there is no hope.

How long have you had this dog?
Was she ever a tree dog?
I agree with the others on this all that she will do is wreck your pups.
I had a female a few years back that was a good stay put tree dog until she was about 8 I don't know what happen with her, she would start and run then when she got to the tree she would tree a few times then go to backtracking as fast as her ran it foreward, when I got to the tree you could see the bear or lion so I know she could see it good, after a few times of this I quit hunting her.

Re: why wont she tree???
A few years back I had a buddy with the same problem. His dogs ranged from 2 to 6 years old. They did an excellent job for him but one fall he couldn't get them to stay at the tree. It was a new problem that developed and he couldn't tell who the actual culprit was. At the time I had a couple stay put tree dogs and we went hunting together. His dogs did an excellent job all the way to the tree. When mine locked on and started treeing we hustled in, shockers in hand. Any dog that left the tree got cooked right back. Tied the dogs off at the tree. It took a few times but they were straightened out. I left one of my tree dogs with him for a few weeks and his dogs did great. It fixed the problem.
His problem developed over time. His dogs treed well before but more and more races seemed to be ending poorly. It was before GPS so it took him a little time to figure out what was happening. We were hunting bobcats and I believe his dogs just needed a refresher on locating.
The hard part is finding a dog that has the confidence to stay put when others are screwing up. Those dogs are hard to come by, and even harder is finding someone to risk screwing their dogs up too.
To make a long story short, I think you could probably fix the dog if she was locating and treeing before. It might be more feasible to cut your losses and try to find a dog without the problems. Good luck.

Re: why wont she tree???
Well, i pretty much agree with everybody that she's probably a cull. but I don't know exactly how you are running her either. alot of older dogs hate when young dogs take the spotlight from them. one of your pups might be posessive on the tree and whoop her off of it, Ive had that happen before. how much game has this dog seen? has she ever been a stay put tree dog? will your pups catch one without her? if they can cull her, if they can't keep workin. are you running with other people and their dogs? I'm just curiouse to see what caliber of a dog we're talking about here. and lastly one thing I have found that is good to help dogs become better tree dogs is coon hunting. Go out with a spot light if you have to and find coons. once they tree have a buudy hold her on a leash at the base and climb up. egg her on the whole time and try to keep her interest. then knock the coon out right ontop of her. then cut her loose and let her kill the coon. repeat several times and if she doesn't start beeing more tree savy put a bullet in her head! p.s. I just read the advise from george and I've helped buddies do it that way also. that is very good advise.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Re: why wont she tree???
I AGREE WITH KORDOG TRY HER ON SOMETHING THAT DOESNT TREE AND IF SHE CANT HANDLE THAT I WOULD GET RID OF HER AND FIND SOMETHING ELSE
Re: why wont she tree???
I had this similar problem and an ole timer asked if I was running the bear out of the tree and letting them chase it again. I said yes. He said stop. He went on... A dog wants to catch more than it wants to tree. Treeing has been bred into them over the years but, catching is instinct. My dogs had figured out that once they came away from the tree (because I was taking them away) the bear would come down and the race would be on again. I had a hell of a time getting to them for a while when they were treed. When I did I simply started tying them as close to the tree as possible and let them tree. When it was time to go we left with much praising. If the bear came down I didn't praise them or turn them loose. Chew time helps to but, this isn't possible with bear because the limit is 1 per person in most states. You can try it with coon but, you'll be running coon too. It's your choice.
