There is not a whole lot you can do to make them bark on the trail they either will or wont that is something know one can change. Be patient as some dogs start at an earlier age than others. As for her barking all day on the chain put a stop to that right away. later, Andy

I used to pride myself on having a silent pack of trailing dogs. I think for cat hunting this is the best dog to have. mine would bark like hell on a tree, but pretty silent trailing. that all went away with time and now I got some semi mouthy suckers. I don't know why, but some of my dogs compete harder with each other on the track. when these dogs get competative, the want it so bad they can't keep their mouth shut. how many dogs are you running with him? I would say as long as he trails good and stays at the tree, keep running him on cats and enjoy cuz he'll probably grow out of it.

If she never starts barking I'll take her off your hands. Hog hunters want hounds that aren't real mouthy, but mine are pretty open right now.

Not a 100 percent hardfast rule with pups..... a dogs tounge is genetically determined at conception. In other words, what you see is what you have.

Ive had some that stayed semi silent until 2. Its a confidence thing, once they connect what there nose is telling them and learn the game they will become more open. Some might stay silent or semi silent, not a bad thing either. Just keep hunt them is all you can do.

Just put a gps on him and let him run the track as long as he barks when treeing, it should not matter that much unless you really HAVE to hear that sweet mountain music.

It's tough to put a number of days or months that it might take for the dog to start opening on track (if it ever does). Every dog is differen't of course. But I've taken a young, dumb pup at 6 months old and hunted it 4 days a week and it take 2 months of solid hunting for it to finally strart opening on the track.

I personally like it when a pup takes a while to open on track........because when they do start opening they are definitely smelling the track and not just barking at dogs.

pups mostly sight chase at first make a drag out of hide or whatever you want them on . tow it behind truck ,4 wheeler etc when you start to pull away from them while there running it usually gets them to barking . be careful not to fetch up your rope while towing especially on the four wheeler it could be bad . this has worked for me on lots of pups .

Are you running her by herself or with other dogs ? My walker bitch barks very little on track when i run her with other dogs , but when i run her by herself she's wide open .

MOST hounds I've had aren't real open or readable on a track until well after a year old. Some open early just cant really "read " them
