Can you recommend me a tracking system?

Post by cmogi10 »

New to the game and I wanted to start looking for a tracking system, I am located in california, so as I understand, GPS tracking is out of the question.
I am looking for something reasonable priced that I could look for secondhand, and I was hoping anyone could give there experiences, pro's and cons so I can start looking.

I am not in a rush, I just want a bit more education on different brands and what I should know about them.

I run with a wildlife 1000. It is very simple to use because you just punch in your collar freq. and your ready to go. Might need some minor tuning but gets you really close without the guess work.

Cant beat the Wildlife 1000. Go to Speeddogs.net. They seem to sell alot of used boxes and collars in the classifieds. I bought some collars a few months back. Had no problems.

thanks everyone,

I'm going to start looking, I have some time before I need it but it's good to have something specific to look for.

If you look around you should be able to pick up a 1000 for about 250-400

You will find that whatever you spend on a tracking system will be paid back five times over, in the first year, in gas alone that you would spend looking for your dogs. Not to mention the worry and headaches of having to keep looking.

I've had good luck with the Tracker (Maxima and Classic). I've heard people say they get a little more bounce, but mine seem to work just as good as my friend’s quicktracks. As far as packing around in the woods, you can’t beat the Trackers! Also you can get a used one pretty reasonably priced.

I agree about it being worth it in the long wrong. I found a wildlife 1000 system with 2 collars for about 400, that's more then reasonable to me. Unfortunately I don't have 400 dollars to spend for a bit, so I'm going to have to hope I come across another deal in a couple months.

Amen, R.M.

I've used a Tracker Classic w/Intelo Collars and they've always done right by me.
